Vincenzo’s Now Offers Fair Trade Coffee
Fair Trade improves lives through:
* fair wages * environmental protection * * long term trade partnerships
* cultural connections*
The Fair Trade model was founded on helping small family farmers work their
way out of poverty. It has helped communities build elementary schools, renovate
soccer fields and pay for emergency medical expenses.
By purchasing Fair Trade products, farmers are treated fair and consumers are
guaranteed high quality products.
Coffee is the most prominent Fair Trade product. Other products include chocolate,
coca, tea and sugar.
Only the consumer can help expand the desperately needed market for fair trade
coffee and send a message to the coffee industry demanding coffee free from social
and environmental exploitation.
How much money (percent of sale price) do the artisans make?
Although the percentage varies depending on the product and vendors involved,
about 15-30% of the retail price of products goes to the artisan.
What is TradesFair Canada?
This organization is Canada’s only independent certification organization for
fair trade coffee, tea, cocoa and sugar. The Fair Trade Certified Logo guarantees
consumers that these products originated from monitored producers in Latin America,
Africa and Asia. Canadian importers and distributors must follow certain criteria
to use this logo. This includes that farmers are paid a decent price for their
harvest.
