Better than decaf if you're in Italy
When you're at a café in Rome and you can't have coffee, the next best
thing is a non-caffeinated barley substitute called Orzo.
Most restaurants and coffee bars in Italy
offer Orzo, which is made from toasted barley ground up like coffee.
There is one version that is water-soluble and a better version that
you make in an espresso machine. It's rich and strong and tastes great
in the morning with steamed milk and sugar, like a cappuccino only with
naturally caffeine-free Orzo.
The best part is that, unlike decaffeinated coffee, which is less
common in Italy, you can order Orzo almost anywhere and not have to
miss out on the rituals.
Orzo has no caffeine in it and is considered to be quite nutritious.
You could have it anywhere in Italy, in chic restaurants and in every
corner coffee bar in Rome.
