The Neapolitan Babà

With its unmistakable mushroom shape, the Babà is an Italian delicacy you can't miss.   A “democratic dessert”  which can be enjoyed without cutlery and with no need for excessive formality.   Three bites and it’s gone! 

The Babà  is a leavened oven-baked sweet pastry  soaked in an alcoholic liquid (traditionally rum or limoncello of the Amalfi Coast)    It first appeared  in  1836, as a typical Neapolitan sweet in the first Italian cookbook written by Angeletti.
