Avocados are a heart-friendly superfood containing a creamy, earthy, nutty interior with a pit in the centre. They have a variety of uses from salads, smoothies, spreads, to baked goods. Avocados are nutrient-dense with high fibre content, healthy fat, and potassium.
Avocados generally take 2-3 days to ripen at room temperature, at which point the skin turns black/brown and is soft to the touch. To speed up ripening, put avocados in a paper bag with a banana or apple. Once ripened, place them in the fridge to extend their freshness by 4-5 days.
