Pineapple

Pineapple is a sweet tangy tropical fruit with an inedible scaly outer skin, revealing the soft yellow flesh that yields roughly 50% per pound. The core can be eaten, although it is tougher and less sweet. Due to its acidity and sugar content, the fruit is popular for marinades and juices.

When selecting a pineapple, look for fresh leaves and a firm yet slightly soft skin. Sweeter pineapples have more yellow on their skin starting from the base upwards. Since pineapple does not ripen after it's picked, it should be cut within 2-3 days of purchasing.
